Rapper Lizzo is clearing the air on social media, as she addresses rumors and highlights her personal health journey.
The 36-year-old Grammy winner took to Instagram on Friday, September 20, 2024, to address claims about her weight loss, regarding her use of Ozempic, a drug often prescribed for type 2 diabetes.
Taking to Instagram, the rapper responded to a comment that questioned whether she was using Ozempic for weight loss. Per her screenshot, the fan asked “Did she use Ozempic or did she snort coke?” To this, Lizzo humorously replied, “Whyyyy do u follow me?
This was revealed in a carousel post she made on Instagram, she published a video of herself smiling, along with a funny message that addressed the rumors.
“When you finally get Ozempic allegations after 5 months of weight training and calorie deficit,” she captioned the post. The video was soundtracked by a popular TikTok audio from Christoph Waltz’s character in Django Unchained, humorously emphasizing the weight loss speculations.
In recent months, Lizzo offered glimpses of her fitness missions, but prioritized physical activity and a healthy lifestyle. Despite the rumors, the music star insists that her fitness routine focuses on strengthening her body rather than just weight loss.
She’s even hinted that she’s been making some of the “BEST music of my life” in the studio, all while maintaining physically fit. Throughout her “gap year,” Lizzo kept up her fitness schedule, posting videos of herself doing arm workouts at the gym and jumping rope on a balcony.
One recent TikTok video from Thursday, Sept. 19, showed off her physique while wearing clothing from her shapewear brand, Yitty. She paired the video with a viral Nicki Minaj TikTok sound, sending a powerful message: “The fact that you would even discuss my looks is insane. I’m a bad bitch, always been a bad bitch.”
Alongside showcasing her workouts, Lizzo has taken time to encourage her fans. In one recent post, she wrote, “If you’re reading this… remember you can do ANYTHING you put ur mind to! Stay focused, you got this
Back in May, Lizzo talked up about her fitness journey, clarifying that she wasn’t attempting to “escape fatness.” She revealed that working out for mental wellness changed her outlook. She also explained that her high-energy performances, which involve singing, dancing, rapping, and playing the flute, require physical endurance..”
“I have a very high-performance job,” she explained. “For 90 minutes a night, I have to do choreography, I have to sing, I have to dance, I have to rap and I have to play the flute. And I have to emote, and hype a crowd in very tight clothes, sometimes clothes where it restricts my breathing.”
“It’s fun. I love my job. But it takes a lot of physical endurance to do what I do, and I used to be very rockstar lifestyle, used to throw myself around on the stage,” Lizzo continued. “As I got more professional in my career, I started to take the physical part more seriously.”
