START A TRAVEL YOUTUBE CHANNEL

You don’t need an expensive camera to become a travel creator.

You need something more important:

A story worth telling

Your smartphone can be enough to begin.

The important thing is learning how to tell stories.

Find Your Angle

Don’t simply say:

“I visited this place.”

Ask a question.

Can you explore Doha for free?

What is life really like for an African working in Qatar?

What happens inside a traditional Qatar market?

Questions create curiosity.

Learn Storytelling

A good travel video needs a beginning, middle and ending.

Start with a hook.

Show the journey.

Give the viewer a reason to continue watching.

Then provide a satisfying conclusion.

Don’t Ignore Audio

Viewers can tolerate average video quality.

Bad audio is much harder to tolerate.

Use a microphone when possible and record in quieter locations.

Learn Basic Editing

You don’t need complicated effects.

Learn:

  • Cutting
  • Music
  • Sound effects
  • Captions
  • Colour correction
  • Basic transitions

Make Better Thumbnails

Your thumbnail should make the viewer curious.

Use a clear subject, strong expression or interesting location and minimal text.

Be Consistent

You don’t have to upload every day.

Choose a schedule you can maintain.

Consistency gives you more opportunities to learn.

Your first video probably won’t be perfect.

That’s okay.

Your goal isn’t to make your first video your best.

Your goal is to make the next video better than the last.
